RUSSIA vs CROATIA
7pm BST – Sochi
Spain 1-1 RUSSIA (3-4 on pens)
Russia shocked the world knocking out 2010 champions Spain on penalties. In normal time, a Dzyuba penalty cancelled out Spain’s opener which came through an own goal from Ignashevich. Koke and Aspas missed penalties for Spain to send Russia through.
CROATIA 1-1 Denmark (3-2 on pens)
Croatia won a penalty shoot out that became all about the keepers. Kasper Schmeichel saved 2, in addition to his 1 in extra time, and Subasic saved 3. Barca midfielder Rakitic scored the winning penalty for Croatia. In normal time, Mandzukic’s close range shot cancelled out Jorgensen’s first minute opener.
LIKELY LINE UPS
Russia – (5-3-2) Akinfeev; Fernandes, Kutepov, Ignasevich, Kudryashov, Zhirkov; Samedov, Zobnin, Kuzyavev; Dzyuba, Golovin
Croatia – (4-3-3) Subasic; Vrsaljko, Lovren, Vida, Strinic; Rakitic, Brozovic, Modric; Perisic, Rebic, Mandzukic
Russia 0-2 Croatia
Russia have had a brilliant tournament so far, doing better than anyone expected. However, I think this will be a step too far. Spain were struggling throughout the tournament, Croatia haven’t, and I think will be too good for Russia here. Expect Russia to use their 5-3-2/5-4-1 formation again to try and nullify Croatia.
Modric to score anytime – 4/1
Croatia to win to nil – 21/10
Dzyuba 1+ shot on target and Madzukic 2+ shots on target – 11/2
