WORLD CUP PREVIEW – TUESDAY

COLOMBIA vs JAPAN

Group H – 1pm BST – Saransk

RECENT FORM
Colombia – In their 1 warm up game in June, Colombia stumbled to a disappointing 0-0 draw with Egypt. However, back in March they defeated France in Paris 3-2 coming from 2-0 behind to win with an 85th minute winner.

Japan – Aside from a 4-2 victory over Paraguay, Japan may be worried by their recent form as they lost 3 friendly matches in a row before that against Switzerland, Ghana and Ukraine.

LIKELY LINE UPS

Colombia – (4-2-3-1) Ospina; Arias, Davinson Sanchez, Mina, Mojica; Carlos Sanchez, Barrios; Cuadrado, Rodriguez, Uribe; Falcao

Japan – (4-2-3-1) Kawashima; Sakai, Yoshida, Makino, Nagatomo; Haseme, Shibaski; Haraguchi, Honda, Inui; Osako

PREDICTIONS

Colombia are a decent side and will be favourites to top the group. I think they will struggle to live up to their 2014 performance but should definitely have enough to beat Japan here. Japan have the weakest squad in a tight group. Colombia 2-0 Japan

TIPS

Colombia 2-0 – 6/1

James Rodriguez to score and win – 11/4

Colombia to win to nil – 11/8

POLAND vs SENEGAL

Group H – 4pm BST – Moscow

RECENT FORM

Poland – The 2 warm up games for Poland went reasonably well with a 4-0 victory over Lithuania and a 2-2 draw with Chile. Lewandowski was in top form scoring 3 goals over the 2 games.

Senegal – Senegal had a mixed set of warm up games. They defeated South Korea 2-0 but fell to a 2-1 loss against Croatia. More concerning though may be the 0-0 draw with Luxembourg.

LIKELY LINE UPS

Poland – (4-1-4-1) Szczesny; Piszczek, Pazdan, Glik, Rybus; Kyychowiak; Blaszczykowski, Zielinski, Linetty, Grosicki; Lewandowski

Senegal – (4-3-3) Diallo; Gassama, Koulibaly, Mbodji, Ciss; Kouyate, Gueye, Ndiaye; Mane, Sow, Balde

PREDICTIONS

This should be a tight affair. Senegal are not an easy team to face but Poland will fancy their chances, especially with Robert Lewandowski in form for his country. I can see a tight victory for Poland by the odd goal. Poland 2-1 Senegal

TIPS

Lewandowski and Mane to both score – 9/1

Poland to win and both teams to score – 9/2

Poland 2-1 – 9/1

RUSSIA vs EGYPT

Group A – 7pm BST – Saint Petersburg

LAST TIME OUT
Russia – Things couldn’t have gone better for the hosts as they hammered Saudi Arabia 5-0 with Cheryshev scoring twice including a cracker with he outside of the boot.

Egypt – The Egyptians fell to an 89th minute loss to Uruguay. Jose Gimenez scored to break the deadlock. Egypt did not have Salah to call on in the opener though.

LIKELY LINE UPS

Russia – (4-2-3-1) Akinfeev; Fernandes, Kutepov, Ignashevich, Zhirkov; Gazinsky, Zobnin; Cheryshev, Dzagoev, Golovin; Smolov

Egypt – (4-2-3-1) El-Shenawy; Fathy, Gabr, Hegazy, Abdel-Shafi; Elneny, El Said Hamed; Warda, Salah, Hassan; Mohsen

PREDICTIONS

This won’t be as easy for Russia as it was against a very poor Saudi side. Depending on Salah’s fitness, Egypt could have a real chance here. Russia 1-1 Egypt

TIPS

Correct Score 1-1  – 5/1

Salah first goalscorer – 4/1

Smolov and Salah to score – 9/2
